DALLAS - Aug. 30, 2019 - PRLog -- Shawn Oakman garnered overnight fame when the image of the 6'9, 290 lbs defensive end appeared to tower over other players on the jumbotron during his years at Baylor. Once projected as the potential number one pick overall for the NFL, Oakman's career would be put on hold due to allegations of sexual assault just three weeks prior to the draft. Shawn would see his shot at playing pro fade away as he spent the next three years trying to clear his name. In February of this year, a jury deliberated for only 45 minutes before declaring Shawn Oakman innocent.

Left with the pieces of his life he still had, Shawn turned back to the one thing that he loved the most, the game of football. With NFL dreams now seemingly out of reach, Oakman had to decide what his next move would be. He got back to training and it wasn't long before he had landed on a few teams and ended up attending the 2019 Spring League. For the last couples of months, Oakman has been tucked away, training privately and relentlessly for his next opportunity. As rumors and speculations have grown, it has been no surprise that leagues have had their interest piqued.

Shawn Oakman was extended an invitation for the XFL draft and has been steady in his thought process. Oakman ultimately accepted the invitation earlier this week. "This is an exciting opportunity, " Oakman stated. "This establishes the first step to the primary goal, which is to eventually play in the NFL".

With his character previously questioned, Oakman is hopeful that he will be given a chance, not just to play football, but to show the public who he really is as a human being. His involvement with the XFL will give him an opportunity to get his athletic career back on track, and for that, he is extremely grateful. In addition to his physical training, Shawn is taking time to develop a charitable project to fight hunger, volunteering with animal rescue & adoption, and making plans for community projects that will benefit those in need.

The XFL, which has minicamps scheduled for this December, will see the season launch in February. Viewers will be able to watch the televised games on Fox, ESPN, and ABC.
