Lice Patrol: Heads Up On Back To School!
September is National Lice Awareness Month. Make Sure Your Student Stays Lice Free This Fall!
Why so busy during Back-To-School?
1. Check everyone in the family (part hair, look around ears, nape of the neck, & crown of the head). If you are not sure what to look for, get a free professional check at Picky Pam at the Beach, or watch their free online tutorials.
2. Don't buy lice shampoo at the pharmacy - they are not effective and the combs are terrible!
3. Apply an enzyme-based, lice killing product. They are natural, digestive enzymes and work beautifully to destroy hatched lice. Skinner recommends Coco Loco All Natural Leave-In Lice Treatment (http://www.licefreekids.com). It has been used on over 30,000 customers in her salon.
4. At home, pillow cases and towels can go in the dryer. Pull hair out of brushes/combs, and put them in a zip lock in the freezer for 6 hours, or in the dishwasher. You get lice from a head, not the house.
5."Once a Week - Take a Peek". Use the NitNabber or Nit Free Lice comb. (Don't try to find lice with your eyes, they move quickly and eggs blend in with hair).
Back-To-School is high season for lice. Did you know only HALF of the population will itch? It is an allergic reaction to the saliva of the bug, but only 50% of people itch! So many times, kids and teens could have a severe case of head lice...and not feel a thing?
