ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - May 9, 2019 - PRLog -- Marc Sammelman, owner of Flagler Foam Insulation, is pleased to announce his company is now Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified and offering blower door testing. This is a required test for any permitted home in Florida per the Florida Building Code. Marc earned the Infiltration and Duct Leakage (IDL) certification, which allows his company to conduct duct leakage tests to the ASTM E1554-07 standard and blower door tests to the ASTM E779 standard.

"Contrary to previous advice over the years, a home does not need to 'breath'," said Marc. "The standard now is to 'build it tight, ventilate it right'," he added. The blower door test measures how energy efficient, or 'tight' a home is by calculating the number of air exchanges, or how many times per hour new air comes into the house. Additionally, Marc also stated that to his knowledge, Flagler Foam is the only company in Flagler County that is BPI certified.

According to the US Department of Energy, air infiltration can account for 40% or more of a home's cooling or heating cost. "With temperatures estimated to be in the 90's this summer in Central Florida, homeowners will be looking for anyway they can to save on their energy costs," said Marc. Air can escape a home through the top plate, duct registers, lighting fixtures, exhaust vent fans, attic hatches, soffit openings, empty wall spaces and insulation gaps.

A blower door test can determine the "tightness" of a home to find out if the home is insulated correctly. While performing this test, a competent technician can find air leakage spots and recommend the correct course of action to eliminate as many of these air leaks as possible.

Information on how the blower door testing is performed is available on the company's website at https://flaglerfoam.com. Homeowners interested in scheduling a blower test to measure the tightness of their home are encouraged to call Flagler Foam at 904-540-7940.
