Piedmont Legacy Trails is Connecting Communities in the Region

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. - Feb. 27, 2019 - PRLog -- Piedmont Legacy Trails, a project to brand the region as a trails destination, is excited to announce the fourth annual Piedmont Legacy Trails Summit will be held March 15, at the Salem Lake Marina Center in Winston Salem. The summit will offer informative presentations relating to regional trail collaboration, urban and rural trail planning, trail funding and the official launch of the new interactive Piedmont Legacy Trails Map. The event will conclude with a guided group bike ride on the Salem Lake Trail. Piedmont Legacy Trails is thrilled to offer the opportunity to connect trail supporters, community members, elected officials and professional planners from all areas of the region. The Piedmont Legacy Trails Summit will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include seven presentations from trail professionals. Keynote speaker Mayor Blake Sanders, the catalyst who attracted over $2 million in public and private economic development by implementing trail plans in the small town of West Pelzer, South Carolina, will present the positive and transformative effects of trails on rural communities. "This summit will energize the region to look at their communities as trail destinations, opening the floor for interactive discussions on how trails can be incorporated to provide economic, health, and environmental benefits." said Palmer McIntyre, Conservation Planner for Piedmont Land Conservancy.

An optional seven-mile group bike ride or walk on the Salem Lake trail will wrap up the day. Attendees can bring their own bikes or reserve a free bike share bike when they register for the summit. "The program will provide inspiring insight to completed trail plans and an opportunity to experience a great trail in our region. Additionally, we will strengthen regional relationships by empowering communities to plan for new trails." said Jesse Day, Regional Planning Director for Piedmont Triad Regional Council.
