LOS ANGELES - Feb. 12, 2019 - PRLog -- For decades, the breathtaking paintings of Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986) have taken viewers through and beyond our solar system. He was a quiet force behind the creation of America's space program. Not everyone has heard of Mr. Bonestell, but in February, space and science fiction enthusiasts in three states will be learning more about the man dubbed "The Father of Space Art" when the award-winning documentary Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future appears for the first time in Somerville, Massachusetts (near Boston), Cleveland, Ohio and San Francisco, California.

"There isn't an artist that's painting today in the science fiction fantasy field who didn't start with Chesley Bonestell," says legendary science fiction author Ray Bradbury in the film's trailer found at their website www.chesleybonestell.com.

Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future is the first film ever made about this visionary painter and features rare interviews with him, along with Douglas Trumbull (2001: A Space Odyssey) and Star Wars veterans Ben Burtt, Craig Barron and Richard Edlund, as well as numerous others who knew him or were influenced by his art.

Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future also takes a more earthbound journey through Bonestell's achievements in architecture, film and art. His early career had him working on New York's Chrysler Building and San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, both timelessly inspiring structures. His architectural skills created movie magic when he moved to Hollywood, where his iconic matte paintings appeared in film classics like Citizen Kane, The Fountainhead, Destination Moon and The War of the Worlds. Bonestell joined forces with rocket scientist Willy Ley and illustrated The Conquest of Space (1949). This best-selling book motivated Americans to conquer "The Final Frontier."

Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future will screen in February first as part of the 44th Boston Science Fiction Film Festival (www.bostonscifi.com) at 3PM on February 16, 2019 at the Somerville Theatre. On February 17th at 4PM, an Ohio Premiere will be hosted at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Last but by no means least, this award-winning documentary will enjoy its World Theatrical Premiere in San Francisco, California at the Roxie Theatre (roxie.com) on February 22 at 7pm and a second screening on February 23 at 2:30pm.
