-- Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) is thrilled to announce that Blair Imani, activist and author of Modern HERstory, is joining the MPV team as an official Ambassador.
Imani is a well-known Black, bisexual, Muslim activist who has been involved with movements and organizations such as Black Lives Matter, Planned Parenthood, GLAAD, and Dosomething.org. She has been outspoken on intersectional issues throughout her career. After 4 phenomenal years as the Founder and Executive Director of Equality for HER, a nonprofit dedicated to providing health and education resources to women and nonbinary individuals, Imani is closing the doors to focus on activism within the Muslim and LGBTQ+ communities with MPV.
On joining the MPV team, Imani had the following to say: "I am looking forward to lifting up and emboldening one of the oldest progressive Muslim organizations to support the LGBTQ+ community. I converted to Islam in 2015 and ever since then I have looked to Muslims for Progressive Values and Ani Zonneveld for guidance. As a bisexual Muslim woman, I am honored to be an Ambassador with Muslims for Progressive Values."
MPV is honored to work alongside such a prominent and passionate figure in the world of intersectional activism. Based on previous work from both Imani and MPV, the mission and values of both are in alignment and this partnership will only further the impact of intersectional advocacy from a Muslim perspective.
Since 2007, MPV has been out in front of American Muslim organizations in the call for human rights and equality. MPV is a faith-based, grassroots, American human rights NGO that advocates for human rights, social justice and inclusion in the United States and around the world. As a progressive Muslim voice, MPV participates in civil discourse, engages with the media and government entities, and partners with both Muslim and non-Muslim progressive organizations.
