This time, the best-friends are faced with a dilemma as the town's jack-o'-lantern goes missing. Legend says that each year, Whispering Hollow's Fall festival has a pumpkin-carving contest that supposedly keeps the ghost of Crippler's Creek at bay, ensuring the town stays safe. However, with the jack-o'-lantern missing, someone—or something—begins to wreak havoc on the community. As they have in the past, the town turns to Mystery and Soda to uncover answers. Mystery and Soda are faced with one major question: is the ghost of Crippler's Creek fact or fiction?

Author Chad Webster was inspired to begin writing his Mystery Muffin & Soda Pop Slooth series during his police career in Charlotte, NC. It only makes sense, then, that he chose to write a series centered on a pair of detectives solving mysteries in their town.

"I have always enjoyed mysteries," confesses the author. "Mystery and Soda Pop learn not to rely on gossip and rumor, but instead, they learn to discover the truth for themselves."
