Alexander Calder's Janey Waney - From Gramercy Park to the Louvre for the FIAC

NEW YORK - Nov. 13, 2018 - PRLog -- Martin Lawrence Galleries is pleased to announce the loaning of Alexander Calder's Jeanie Waney to the 2018 International Art Fair, held in Paris France.  Calder's Jeanie Waney will be exhibited at the Jardin De, Tuileries and the place de la Concorde alongside 26 other works, as part of the FIAC, an annual exhibition recognized worldwide as an opportunity for the public to discover the latest developments in contemporary art, through the works of some of the      most famous artists in the world.  Janey Waney will be on exhibit for a full year before returning to Gramercy Park, New York where it has been on display since 2011.

Jeanie Waney was created by Alexander Calder in 1969, and it was commissioned by Jane Holzer, for the Smith Haven Mall, located in the Long Island Village of Lake Grove. Along with Calder's Janey Waney, Jane Holzer, commissioned other art as part of her mall-as-museum concept.

The Janey Waney is a largescale mobile, and it fully demonstrates Alexander Calder's mastery in kinetic mobile sculptures. Although one of history's greatest sculptures, Calder's name has become synonymous with the mobile. He started experimenting with Mobile sculptures in the 1930's after being inspired by shifting light over colored cardboard rectangles in Piet Mondrian's studio.  While the avant-garde artist may not have invented mobiles, the world has come to refer almost exclusively to his free-moving creations.

In 2011, Janey Waney  was loaned to Grammercy Park through the Calder Foundation. In March, 2014 Janey Waney was displayed at the European Fine Art Fair in Maastricht, Netherland. In June 2014 it was displayed at the Rijksmuseum, in Amsterdam. It returned to Grammercy Park on November 2014 where it has been on display until 2018.

Currently located at Louvres Jardin De Tuileries, Janey Waney's one year stay in Paris is poignant in that Paris as the city of Calder's Artistic birth. A place where it was a compliment to be called crazy, and where the remarkable creative caldron of late 1920's Paris nurtured Calder's early development in the world of art.
