HOUSTON - Oct. 3, 2018 - PRLog -- Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) will collaborate with Houston Museum of Fine Arts to present a multi-genre art exhibition themed "Healing Through Art".  The benefits of art therapy are numerous, and this specific collection has been commissioned to enrich the lives of cancer patients, survivors, people living with disease, their families, caretakers, and medical professionals who treat them, support them, and advance their agenda.

"Healing Through Art" is quite unique and best described as a fusion of the visual, literary, & performance art genres stylized through the effects of music, fashion, digital technologies, and avant-gardism.   The exhibit is being developed & created by an assembly of award-winning artists to include: Olympic Medalist Simone Biles, 106.1 FM DJ Rehan Siddiqi, Hip Hop Stars Scarface, Paul Wall, and Devin The Dude, Pop Star & Grammy Winner Kelly Rolland, Abstract/Mural Painter Daniel Anguilu, Astros Players Will Harris & Chris Devenski, Gospel Superstar Vocalist Yolanda Adams,  veteran Actress Phylicia Rashad, Acclaimed Poet Robert Lunday, Author/Activist Victoria Olstein, and CBS Network Writer Gwendolyn Zepeda.  The "Healing Through Art exhibit will feature many of the doctors, nurses,  technicians, scientists, researchers, patient advocates & therapists who are on the front lines, fighting cancer every day, here in the city of Houston & surrounding areas.

"I'm grateful to SU2C for the opportunity to honor the men & women that are making such a vital impact in Houston", Stated Healing Through Art's Head Curator, Krishnar Lewis, who is responsible for the exhibit's creative direction.  Mr. Lewis is also an award-winning model/singer/actor, a native of Houston, and he is a colon cancer survivor.  HMFA (Houston Museum of Fine Arts) Spokesman Adam H. Kelly shared his thoughts with sheer excitement.  "Our city has nationally recognized care and is home to one of the nation's most advanced cancer centers. We have renown oncology teams and rising stars in research, clinical trials, and collaborative health care. Healing Through Art will depict each of these facets in a way that fosters hope, joy, inspiration, and quality of life."

Joining SU2C, HMFA, MasterCard, and WIX.com in corporate partnership for this exhibition include Greenway Plaza Mercedes Benz,  Xfinity, The MLB—Minute Maid Park Community Cooperative, H.E.B. Grocery Stores Inc., Houston Fashion Week, and The Houston Galleria.

MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) Foundation—Second Vice Chairman Lester Blackwell describes the construction and staging of Healing Through Art: "This particular exhibit will be one of the most extravagant, large-scale sites ever to be installed at HMFA. That is partially due to the exhibit's layout.  It encompasses both the interior museum and the exterior grounds in a stylized scheme that is going to take your breath away.  So I must say hats' off to our Curator Mr. Lewis & the team of artists for such an innovative concept and so many other great ideas.  This project is going to be a very challenging one, but also well deserving, highly spirited, and downright rousing!  I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of it.  The fact that Healing Through Art features many of the cancer care professionals in Houston only motivates me to work that much harder.  I don't wish to reveal too much about the exhibit itself, but I am eager to have the city understand the caliber of talent being showcased in this exhibition; like Dr. James Allenson who the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physic for a major breakthrough in cancer. There's also Victoria Weintraub, a registered nurse who works with chemotherapy medicines. She affected change on behalf of her Houston patients by speaking at a Washington DC congressional hearing and raising $100,000.00 of which every dime was allocated to providing healthier foods and snaking options for patients on treatment days.  Mrs. Weintraub accomplished all of this while maintaining her full-time nursing career.  These are just two examples of the extraordinary people that'll be featured in the exhibit." -Blackwell concluded.

Production for the Healing Through Art Exhibition, including the selection for Houston features, begins October 11th, 2018 and continues through the holiday months.  A pre-opening gala (by invitation only) for credentialed media and approved industry personnel will take place on Thursday, January 10th, 2019.  Friday, February 1st, 2019 will mark the exhibit's official opening, and commencement of the exhibition's seven day installation that culminates on Thursday, February 7th, 2019.  Visit HMFA online for more information about daily showing & closing times as well as ticket prices & free access viewings.  During the month of April 2019, SU2C will sponsor an electronic edition of Healing Through Art that will be accessible online.  A direct link will be announced prior to this edition's release.
