Follow on Google News | New book offers glimpse into the Monkees' 1967 tour with Jimi HendrixFirst project of the production company founded by the daughters of Davy Jones
By: Along Came Jones Media Photos included in the book are part of the personal collection of Davy Jones, left to his daughters after his passing in 2012. They include many photos taken by Jones himself, and some taken by those traveling with him during the 1967 tour. Featured in the photographs are Jones, his bandmates Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork, and a host of celebrities, performers, and Monkee insiders. Most notable in the book are the images featuring the members of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, including Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, and Hendrix himself. The band opened for seven of The Monkees' 1967 tour dates but left the tour abruptly in mid-July. With never-before- "One thing I remember is Mike had a Kodak 104 Instamatic camera. It had a little flash: You had a flashcube, four flashes, and it took little square jumbo prints. And he started buying them for everybody on the tour," says Diltz in the foreword of the book. "And they'd jump into someone's room and go flash, flash, flash, flash around the room and get pictures. Then, every city we'd go to, we'd get them printed and everybody was always trading their little jumbo prints around. That was kind of fun.
