Mitigation of construction project managementBy: Construction DesignWorks, LLC By Scott Hamele, DBIA President and founder of Construction DesignWorks, LLC and Nationwide Commercial Inspections, LLC Mitigation, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is the process or result of making something less severe, dangerous, painful, harsh or damaging. Applying mitigation to construction project management is crucial to a successful project. One key factor in a successful ground up building or commercial remodeling project is dependent on the efficiency in which a request for information (RFI) is processed. The days of formal hard copies of the RFI making its way from the field superintendent to the project manager (http://constructiondesignworks.net/ The RFI process must be controlled and documented. However, a shotgun approach sometimes is the best method for expedited creative solutions and optimal input. Utilizing a radial communication method versus vertical communication will acquire supplementary options and ultimately the best answer more swiftly. The radial communication approach permits the PM to simultaneously submit an RFI to all parties that are affected by the problem. An example of good construction project management communication The field site superintendent notices there are anchor bolts installed in a concrete footing that does not line up with the structural steel that is already on-site and ready to be installed. The question is what to do about it. Details are provided to the PM. The superintendent is encouraged to provide a possible solution but it isn't necessary. The PM then submits an RFI to the architect and copies all parties affected such as the structural engineer, specialized consultant, structural and concrete subcontractors. Typically, the architect has the ultimate authority to provide the official response to the RFI, but now has input from ALL parties involved. The radial communication method provides an expedited RFI process and mitigation of the construction project management (http://www.weather.com/ About Construction DesignWorks, LLC Construction DesignWorks uses its hands-on approach and design expertise to create and develop a winning design-build (http://constructiondesignworks.net/ View original article on construction project management (http://constructiondesignworks.net/ Contact Scott Hamele ***@constructiondesignworks.com (913) 745-4727 Photo: https://www.prlog.org/ End
