Follow on Google News | Looking down the lens at Logan - $5000 prizeBy: Logan City Council The Picture This contest is calling for images that capture Logan as a contemporary, creative and culturally-diverse community and must be taken on a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. Entries will be judged by wildlife photographer Steve Parish, Griffith University photographic lecturer Peter Thiedeke and Logan City Council's creative industries program leader Robyn Daw. Winners of the contest will share in a total prize pool of $10,000 in camera equipment with their images potentially featured in City of Logan public education campaigns showcasing the region as evolving, dynamic and innovative. Logan City Councillor Laurie Smith said the contest was designed to create a photographic album that reflected the contemporary people and places of Logan. "It will be a reflection of Logan by those who live and work in the region but also through the fresh eyes of visitors," said Cr Smith, chair of Logan City Council's Image and Innovation Committee. "We are calling on professional and amateur photographers of all ages and from Ipswich, the Gold Coast, Brisbane and other parts of South East Queensland to take part in the contest to help us create a colourful collage of our city." Cr Smith said he hoped the competition would change the way people saw the City of Logan. "Logan has so much natural beauty, a thriving arts scene and a wealth of talented people doing amazing things," he said. "Picture This will serve as a great reminder of the things to do and see across Logan and will also raise awareness amongst people in other parts of South East of what's on offer in this city." Cr Smith said the judges would select 25 finalists from the submissions with two winners to receive $5000 each in retail vouchers from Camera House, Loganholme. Entries are open until July 31 with winners announced by August 31. Find more information at www.picturethislogan.com.au.
