GREATER MANCHESTER, U.K. - June 12, 2018 - PRLog -- According to new research, a study of 1000 UK adults carried out in May 2018 showed over half of respondents (58%) would like to exercise more often. One in 10 UK adults involved in the research admit they don't do any exercise, despite Government recommendations that we should try to be active daily and should do at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity such as cycling or brisk walking every week.

Satsuma Loans carried out a study investigating the UK's exercising habits after an NHS report revealed that there were more than 600,000 hospital admissions last year caused by obesity – an increase of 18% on the previous year.

The Satsuma research also looked into the reasons behind Britain's attitude towards exercise and found that a quarter of those involved in the study admit the cost of gyms puts them off exercising, claiming they would be more likely to exercise if gyms were free.

In light of these findings experts at Satsuma has created an online tool where people can find free places to exercise in their nearest city:

Looking at some of these key cities specifically, the top three UK cities where respondents claim to be getting the most exercise are Liverpool, Edinburgh and Leeds, where as those doing the least amount of exercise each week are in Belfast, Manchester and Bristol.

When it comes to men and women 43% of male respondents said they are happy with the amount of exercise they do compared to just 30% of women. Surprisingly, people's interest in exercise seems to decline with age as two thirds of those aged 18-24 said they would like to exercise more often compared to just half of those aged 35-44 and less than a third of those aged 55-64.

Others reasons why people are reluctant to exercise, according to the research, are:

-        Time pressures and other priorities taking over

-        Feeling self-conscious

-        Worried that they are already so unfit, they won't be able to keep up with a class or group

-        Not knowing which exercise is best for them
