Forthcoming Addiction Recovery Program to Benefit Inmates

The Fairfax County Sheriff announced that its jail will be implementing a new addiction recovery program this fall.

FAIRFAX, Va. - May 7, 2018 - PRLog -- County Sheriff Stacey Kincaid announced that the Fairfax Adult Detention Center will implement a new addiction recovery program to treat inmates. She unveiled the news at a symposium last month at George Mason University.

Helping people in jail and the local community who do not have access to treatment is our responsibility, Kincaid said.

Kincaid said that some current practices from Chesterfield County Jail's Heroin Addiction Recovery Program will be combined with addition approaches FADC is developing.

Although Virginia's Addiction Recovery and Treatment Services Medicaid program has expanded addiction treatment services around the state, the number of drug-related overdose deaths continue to increase.

According to preliminary 2017 data from the Virginia Department of Health's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, drug overdose fatalities have reached a ten-year high, accounting for 1,530 deaths this past year.

Kincaid believes that once FADC's addiction recovery program is running, it can serve as a model for future programs in Virginia. The program is scheduled to being in September.
