Follow on Google News | Students in Drug Addiction Recovery Helped by CollegeThe University of Oregon's Collegiate Recovery Center offers resources to assist students with substance use disorders.
Students are eligible to sign up to be a CRC member if they've been abstinent from drug or alcohol use for three months. The program encourages students to attend two weekly community recovery meetings, such as Narcotics Anonymous, and attend a CRC recovery seminar on Wednesday nights. During these sessions, they bond with their peers and staff while discussing their recovery progress. The CRC offers numerous activities to also encourage a drug-free social life and community service projects for members to participate in. Counselors will also give general advice regarding class schedules so academic stress that can lead to a relapse can be managed. Many OU students misuse prescription opioids or amphetamine- Students nationwide use Adderall to help focus on classwork. The University of Michigan conducted a study where 25 percent of student respondents said they use Adderall; most obtained it without a proper prescription. The Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration's found that nearly 170,000 young adults had stimulant use disorders and nearly 392,000 had opioid use disorders in 2016.
