This turmoil included strikes at mines in the Western states, including Colorado. These labor protests culminated in the bloody massacre at Ludlow, Colorado. On April 14th, the Governor of Colorado ordered the state militia to break the strike and 'bring order' to the mines at Ludlow," Mike Broemmel explained. "The militia opened fire on a tent city that was home to the Ludlow miners and their families. By the end of the assault, an unknown number of miners were killed, together with about a dozen women and children," Mike Broemmel added. Through the compilation of oral histories, The Lady of Ludlow recounts the horrors of that bloody day on the frontier of the United States. The day's events are recounted from the wife of the man responsible for sending troops to Ludlow in the first instance, a woman named Elizabeth Ammons, the First Lady of Colorado. The story of what happened at Ludlow is a historical event that all Americans must know. The Lady of Ludlow tells that story.
