HOUSTON - April 10, 2018 - PRLog -- A beautiful French refugee, a champagne vendor, an American heiress, and Winston Churchill assemble at a British country house to fight Hitler and save England and those they love in Judithe Little's award-winning "Wickwythe Hall."

"Wickwythe Hall," winner of this year's Best Historical Fiction Award in the Reader Views Literary Awards, opens in 1940 with the dramatic invasion of France by Hitler's army. Annelle, a young woman raised in a convent, flees from danger in search of her brothers, who are fighting with the French Foreign Legion. She ends up at Wickwythe Hall, where American heiress Mabry Springs is aiding the war effort by taking in refugees. Mabry also hosts Winston Churchill and his entourage, including Reid Carr, an American champagne vendor on special assignment, who just happens to be Mabry's former lover. As Churchill tries to stop Hitler from taking the French fleet, Reid travels to France to find Annelle's brothers, and with him, takes Mabry's heart.

Tyler R. Tichelaar, winner of the 2009 Reader Views Best Historical Fiction Award for his novel "Narrow Lives" and the award sponsor since 2010, says of "Wickwythe Hall," "Little's novel is the perfect blend of history, romance, adventure, and engaging characters. It teaches us about history and also about ourselves. I'm delighted it won this year's award."

In addition to winning Best Historical Fiction with Reader Views, it was a finalist in the 2013 William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition, the Writers' League of Texas 2009 Agents Conference Manuscript Contest, and named a 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards finalist. Foreword Reviews calls "Wickwythe Hall," "a riveting and enlightening mix of history and fiction that puts a human face on the costs of war," and Ann Weisgarber, author of "The Promise," declares it is "Beautifully written and rich with atmosphere…a stellar achievement."
