Apache Junction Unified School District Students Shine at AJ Kid Idol Competition

PHOENIX - Jan. 30, 2018 - PRLog -- Three students from Apache Junction Unified School District won first place in their age group at the first AJ Kid Idol talent competition held Sunday, Jan. 28th at Barleens Arizona Opry, 2275 E. Old West Highway in Apache Junction.

Gage Davis, 8, a student from Desert Vista elementary School, won first place in the K-6 division.  He performed an acrobatic dance from the song, "Genie," from the "Aladdin" movie.

Matthew Swigert, 17, from AJHS, performed an original song he composed on the piano called "New Beginnings."

Jennifer Webb, 17, also a student at Apache Junction High School, competed in the 13-17 category and won first place. She sang two songs, one written by Roy Orbison and another by KD Lang.

This inaugural event, hosted by the AJ Kiwanis Club, included dancing, singing, comedy, art, small groups and more, as approximately 15 young artists, ages 6 – 18 competed for cash prizes. Judges included Apache Junction Mayor Jeff Serdy, Apache Junction Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Krista Anderson, AJ Parks & Recreation Director Liz Langenbach and talented local singer Debbie Kent.

Proceeds from the event will go to purchase playground equipment for special needs students at Apache Junction schools.
