What: Demand fundamental reform of the Democratic Party and accountability for DNC officers who violated their duty and betrayed the trust Where: In Washington, D.C. and nationwide Why: To help build the Democratic Party into something Democrats can all be proud of When: Starting immediately and continuing for the foreseeable future How: Via grassroots organizing and participation in Party processes Washington, D.C.—Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) leadership expressed profound disappointment at the latest revelations confirming that certain top Democratic National Committee (DNC) officers violated their duty and betrayed the trust of millions of Democrats during the 2016 presidential primaries. They also called for the immediate resignation of all DNC officers who were complicit in the malfeasance, for fundamental reform, and for rebuilding the Democratic Party from the grassroots to the top. Donna Smith, PDA Executive Director, said, "In light of the revelations that now confirm the role the DNC played during the 2016 presidential primary, we all must demand reparations for the significant damage done to organizations like PDA who used precious and valuable resources to advocate for progressive candidates, including Bernie, only to now find that our own Party was actively working to destroy our efforts." Smith added, "PDA also demands transparency from the DNC going forward in terms of the deals cut with large-value donors who clearly paid for influence and access to those in power. The DNC must now do everything in its power to remove from Party leadership and hold accountable those who participated in this abuse. There is no place in the Democratic Party for the kind of delusion and collusion that ultimately handed this nation over to the abusive Trump family and their associates." Smith concluded, "Common sense and a desire to reclaim our democracy must now be the clear focus of a reformed DNC. Short of complete reformation, fair reparations made to damaged groups, and leadership house-cleaning, no amount of organizational mea culpa will suffice. Democrats deserved better. America deserved better." Mike Fox, PDA's Deputy Director said, "My heart goes out to all of my fellow Bernie delegates—and especially the 236 PDA member delegates—who not only gave their sweat and their treasure to bring in votes for Bernie in local primaries, but also invested in some cases thousands of dollars to travel to Philadelphia to cast their ballots in a process that never provided a level playing field. I look forward to working inside of the party as a precinct committee person, board member of our county Executive Committee, and President of the St. Petersburg Democratic Club to help build the party into something we can all be proud of." Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots political action committee. The organization was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and U.S. politics by working inside the Democratic Party and outside with peace, justice, civil rights, environmental, and other reform movements. PDA's Healthcare Not Warfare campaign brings together the need for a comprehensive universal healthcare system with our advocacy for scaled-down military spending and reliance on non-military approaches to foreign policy, rather than regime change and military action. The PDA National Advisory Board includes: Representatives John Conyers, Jr., Barbara Lee, Keith Ellison, Raul Grijalva, and James McGovern; as well as progressive leaders including Academy Award winning documentarian Michael Moore, Actress / Activist Mimi Kennedy, Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler, Author Jim Hightower, and Radio Hosts / Authors Lila Garrett and Thom Hartmann. Esteemed activists Michael Lighty, Medea Benjamin, Steve Cobble, Kristin Cabral, Marjorie Cohn, and Dr. Paul Song, M.D. also serve on the PDA Advisory Board.
