ANAHEIM, Calif. - Oct. 11, 2017 - PRLog -- When thinking about safety in the trucking industry, the overwhelming majority of discussions focuses on improving safety of drivers during drop and hook operations. One technology manufacturer is setting its sights on a comparatively overlooked cause of worker compensation costs and lost productivity in the trucking industry. UltraLift Technologies hopes to help reduce the number of repetitive stress injuries by encouraging commercial trucking firms to adopt the company's power tool as an alternative to hand-cranking when raising and lowering a trailer's landing gear.

Across all industries, repetitive stress injuries are one of the most common cause of worker's compensation cases. In the trucking industry specifically, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health identifies "upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders" as one of the four most common and costly types of injuries. These disorders might affect the wrist, elbow, or shoulder, any of which can be hurt by manually cranking the trailer's landing gear, even when manually cranking in the correct operating position, repeated on a daily or near-daily basis for years of service.

However, according to Darrell Brubaker at UltraLift Technologies, these sorts of injuries receive inadequate attention in many trucking companies' Accident Prevention Plans. Some firms neglect to implement these plans at all, whereas others focus solely on outlining maintenance procedures and the conditions that will best prevent tired and distracted driving, in order to reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

Darrell Brubaker adds that even when companies have shown an interest in reducing the risk of more commonplace injuries, there has traditionally not been a simple technological and cost effective solution. Whereas vehicle safety may be periodically improved through the installation of new braking systems or heads-up displays, technological improvements are less familiar to other areas of the industry such as the trailer landing gear.

UltraLift declares its power tool to be the first of its kind, in that it provides a safe and effective alternative to hand-cranking, without the need for costly and time-consuming installations of hydraulic, pneumatic, or other electrical equipment. The UltraLift powertool can be used on any trailer that has undergone the five-ten minute installation of the company's Universal Stabilizer Adaptor Bracket which fits onto majority of all landing gears. This is the only solution on the market that allows the manual hand crank to remain on the trailer landing leg at all times as a secondary backup.

Considering how quickly and easily trucking firms can make the transition to retrofit their entire fleet without the need to make permanent adjustments, Ultralift expects to see an increase nationwide adoption of its power tool throughout the trucking industry in the years to come. Ultralift and its distributors also expect the power tool solution to significantly decrease the number of repetitive motion and bodily stress injuries among truck drivers over the next several years.
