For a more breakfast-y brunch, Prairie Grass Cafe delivers with its selection of benedicts, omelets and pancakes. Served with breakfast potatoes, benedict options include the Signature PGC Benedict ($12), two poached eggs over sautéed spinach, topped with crumbled bacon and served with roasted tomato hollandaise sauce; Smoked Salmon Benedict ($15), two poached eggs, smoked salmon, English muffin and hollandaise; The brunch omelets are generous and fresh, with a variety of tasty options, prepared with the highest quality ingredients. The Mediterranean ($10.75) features feta, tomato, spinach and onion; the Denver ($10.75) includes smoked ham, cheddar, onion and green pepper; and the Local Omelet ($11.50) with farmer eggs, River Valley Ranch mushrooms and goat cheese. The restaurant's pancakes satisfy all sweet cravings. Light, subtly sweet and tangy, the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes ($12) is served with real maple syrup and whipped butter—or go all out and top them with raspberry sauce and Crème Anglaise ($17) for a memorable treat. The homemade buttermilk pancakes are always a favorite. Choices include Chocolate Chip ($11), Fresh Blueberry ($12) and Buttermilk Pancakes ($10). Guests who prefer to enjoy brunch a little later in the day will appreciate the extensive "lunch" section featuring signature dishes like the Sautéed Lake Superior Whitefish ($25) with roasted heirloom carrots and pistachios in a lemon butter sauce; Golden Browned Chicken Cutlet ($18) with lemon-caper sauce and potato wedges; and the Chicago Magazine #1 Sirloin Burger ($16) with mild blue cheese topping, warm beefsteak tomato and potato wedges. Deemed the best burger in Chicago by Chicago Magazine, Prairie Grass Cafe's Sirloin Burger is served bun-less because it is so thick and juicy it doesn't need one (delicious artisan buns are available upon request). Pulling from the best of breakfast and lunch are the PGC Specialties. Lox lovers will enjoy the Traditional Smoked Salmon Plate ($16) with tomatoes, marinated red onions, cucumbers, capers, cream cheese and a toasted bagel while those wanting something a little more meaty will savor the Ancho Marinated Skirt Steak ($27) served with two eggs any style, breakfast potatoes and choice of toast. A Half Skirt Steak option is available for $18.50. Other dishes include Chiliquiles ($10) topped with two eggs any style, guacamole and sour cream; "Potato Skins" ($12) stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, scallions and sour cream; Prairie Breakfast ($10.50) featuring two eggs any style, homemade Ancho Chile spiced sausage, breakfast potatoes and choice of toast; Texas French Toast ($9); and the Egg White Omelet ($12.50) with mushrooms, tomatoes, jalapenos, onion, green pepper, avocado and Pico de Gallo. Complement the meal with inspired brunch cocktails and martinis Specialty cocktails include the Moscow Mule ($12) with Grey Goose vodka, ginger beer, fresh lime juice, served in a copper mug; the Rhubarb Margarita ($11) with fresh rhubarb, lime triple sec and Hornitos Tequila; the Apothecary ($11), with Death's Door Gin, fresh lime, Carpano Antica bitters; and the PGC Old-Hatten (somewhere between a Manhattan and an Old-Fashioned, $14) made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Luxardo, select vermouths, bitters and zest; the Coconut Mojito ($10) with fresh coconut water, lime, garden mint and rum; and the Grapefruit Basil Smash ($10) with fresh grapefruit juice, muddled basil and North Shore Vodka. Martinis include the Bees Knees ($10), local Ellis Farm honey-lemon juice and North Shore Distillery #6 Gin; the Nordic Nectar ($10), pineapple infused vodka, shaken and stirred; the 1845 Martini ($13), with Ketel One Vodka, St. Germain and grapefruit-orange bitters; and the Lakeshore Martini ($13), with Grey Goose Vodka, shaken & served extra-cold, and blue cheese olives.
