FORT WORTH, Texas - April 6, 2017 - PRLog -- CrossFit competitions are not for the faint of heart, and if you've committed to trying one out, prepare for one of the toughest and most rewarding competitions of your life.

First Things First
Get with your coach or trainer and make an honest assessment of your skills. Like everyone, you're going to be better at some events or skills than others, so it's time to take a long hard look at your skill set and figure out your problem areas.

If you've got more than one problem area, don't worry – you're not alone. Most of us can do one or two things really well, and your training time will be spent shoring up your problem areas. This is what CrossFit competitions are all about!

Stick to the Plan
Once your workout regimen, diet, and supplements are set, stick to them! Don't shake things up and don't skip any days, you're going to need all of it to reach your peak performance levels during the competition.

Go Time
When your training is coming to an end and the competition date is approaching, you'll want to start slowing down on the more rigorous and demanding portions of your workout. There's nothing worse than pulling a hamstring or blowing out a knee two days out from a competition.

To keep yourself tuned, it's usually smart to switch to low impact, high rep workouts. For the last few days, cardio is all you need. Many CrossFit competitors stick to their home gym for the last week or so to help cut down on the nerves.

If you're working out at home, be sure you're using proper padding. Again, injuring yourself right before a competition is the worst thing in the world. A good, solid mat like a FlexFit Mat is your ideal choice, since you can set it up anywhere and it gives you a great mix of cushioning and resilience.

Finding the right event
Start with your CrossFit training facility, they may have recommendations for you on how to enter the competition circuit. More than likely they are going suggest you start small, local events, and then work your way up to the big ones. Check out Eventbrite.com or Active.com for scheduled events in your area.

Do Your Best!
Remember, you can only do what you can do. Don't over exert yourself during the competition; you're going to need large reserves of strength and stamina to make it through. Pushing yourself too far means you won't be able to hang in there and see it through to the end, so keep your eye on the finish and think long term!
