Facebook did not get into the game until 2008. However, Facebook was not the first in the social media realm to use messaging. Let us all remember MySpace. An interesting study looked at how many people use a messaging app on a daily basis, and they concluded that about 55% of the world's population uses a messaging apps. Interestingly, the four biggest messaging apps surpass the top social networks. As people use their mobile devices more and more, it will become even more important to be involved with messaging apps as a business.

Facebook continues to be a leader in social media as well as messaging. Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19 billion and attempted to purchase Snap Chat for $3 billion in 2013, but was unable to secure this deal at that point in time.
You will see more and more brands and businesses trying to get a piece of the pie with messaging apps. This will continue to grow and be more important. As it becomes more and more sophisticated, it will likely become even more critical that you are a part of this movement.
