Follow on Google News | 2016 International Juried Exhibition opens at The Center for Contemporary ArtJuror Jonathan Goodman selected 49 pieces from 943 entries submitted by 328 artists from across the U.S., as far away and Alaska and Hawaii plus Canada, Italy and Germany. The exhibit consists of work representing 42 artists in a broad range of subject matter and media. Three artists were selected for cash awards: 1st Prize: Josepha Gutelius (Saugerties, NY) 2nd Prize: Dara Alter (Hillsborough, NJ) 3rd Prize: Christyn Overstake (South Bend, IN) Artists Dara Alter (Hillsborough, NJ), Matthew Borgen (Havetown, PA) and He Wei and Hu Naishu (New York, NY) were awarded solo exhibits at The Center for Contemporary Art by the Special Exhibitions Committee, which will take place in 2017. Executive Director of The Center for Contemporary Art, Elie Porter Trubert stated "I eagerly anticipate this exhibition each year. With nearly 1,000 entries in every imaginable medium, a juror has a huge amount of artwork to choose from and limitless ways to assemble an exhibition. I commend Jonathan Goodman on his selection of excellent work in a broad range of media and subject matter, and congratulate all of artists selected for participation!" Jonathan Goodman is an art writer and poet based in New York. He has written about contemporary art for more than thirty years for publications that include Art in America, Sculpture, Art Asia Pacific, Art on Paper, artcritical and Brooklyn Rail. Goodman published his first collection of poems, Metropolitan Rooms, in 1994. He currently teaches contemporary art writing and thesis essay writing at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
