Official Statement of Church of God in Christ in Response to Recent Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nov. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- In response to the very serious allegations involving Bishop James L'Keith Jones, the General Board of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), has agreed that immediate action must be taken to effectively address this matter according to the rules and procedures of the COGIC Constitution.

We are very troubled by the recent allegations. We take very seriously our obligation to hold members of our leadership accountable for their conduct and behavior.  At the time of Bishop Jones' appointment to the position of Bishop (which appointment was made on the recommendations of the pastors within his jurisdiction), thorough reference and background checks were conducted and no allegations of this nature were presented to the General Board.

At a meeting scheduled for next week, the General Board has agreed to make a recommendation to the Board of Bishops that steps be taken to grant parties involved in this matter an opportunity to be heard.  We have every confidence that the Board of Bishops will proceed with a trial as mandated by the COGIC Constitution.
