Heart of a Woman is based off memoir I Rise - The Transformation of Toni Newman discussing transitioning over 20 years ago from male to female. Transgender author Toni Newman, graduate of Wake Forest University and inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou, is the Development Manager for Maitri Compassionate Care in San Francisco and studying law now for J.D. The story discusses gender, sexuality, equality and living an authentic life.

Heart of a Woman features Angelica Ross, Justin Berti, Rachel Sterling, Isis King, Jason Stuart and E.P. McKnight. The director of the film is Keith Holland. The executive producers are Toni Newman, Alton Willoughby, Keith Holland, Jill Stockwell and Angelica Ross. Original music was written by Angelica Ross and Rapper Legendary KCO.
