By: The Arc Volusia "We are excited to invite the public to this very special 15-year anniversary Buddy Walk," said Arc CEO Audra Burd. "The purpose of this event is two-fold; to raise awareness for individuals with Down syndrome and other Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, as well as raise resources for programs that serve this individuals," Registration for the event is $10, and includes lunch, water all day, games, and activities including inflatables, carnival games, sno-cones, cotton candy, entertainment and more. Registration and games open at 10:00am, the opening ceremony and walk starts at 11:00am, followed by an awards ceremony at 11:30am, and lunch at 12:00pm. The event closes at 1:00pm. The event will be held at First Baptist Church - DeLand, located at 725 N. Woodland Blvd, DeLand, Fla. There will be approximately 300 feet of vendor space, with an assortment of arts, crafts, candles, jewelry, bags and other items for sale. Guests may patronize the vendors without paying an entry fee. Fifty three years later, the Arc continues to lead the way in promoting awareness of the strengths and achievements of Americans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), We currently serve 230 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities – helping them develop life skills, increase their independence, and creating opportunities for them to earn a paycheck. The Arc's community impact focuses in four areas - education, employment, health and basic needs. The Arc of Volusia has two campuses, one in Daytona and the other in DeLand.
