PRLog -- New York State Assembly District 33 Candidate Nantasha Williams made the following statement in response to Saturday's announcement by the New York Police Department regarding the investigation in the fatal shootings of Imam Maulama Akonjee and his assistant Thara Uddin.
"We're still healing from the June attack on a man leaving a mosque within the 33
rd Assembly District in the neighborhood of Queens Village. The senseless gun violence in Saturday's attack is a constant tragic reminder that gun reform is vital to protect our communities from violent acts of crime. It is particularly troubling that these acts of violence occurred as the victims were leaving houses of worship. Queens is a borough of immigrants, and we are proud of the diverse character and contributions made by people from all corners of the globe who call it home. My heart aches for the families of Imam Maulama Akonjee and Thara Uddin and the religious community of which they were an integral part. I am confident that the NYPD will bring their assailants to justice."
