By: Emmanuel’s Closet The clothing closet is affiliated with Parkview Baptist Church and has about 40 volunteers, including eight team leaders, from various churches, working behind the scenes to make this outreach mission run smoothly. On a regular shopping day the mission gives away complimentary clothing, shoes, toys and books to Flagler families. Volunteers say the donations are pouring in from Flagler residents and go right back out the door to help Flagler residents in need. "Every year around August, families come to the closet looking for polos for the mandatory back to school uniforms, but unfortunately, we never seem to have enough to meet this great need in our county. With the help of our very generous community, we believe that this is the school year we can fix that," said Brandi Fowler, Founder of Emmanuel's Closet. The closet just received their first grant from the United Way Women's Initiative of Flagler to help jump-start this project. The $1,000 grant is being used to purchase new polo shirts in various sizes. A local company, TeamWork Graphics LLC, is assisting them with the purchase and is taking no profit from the transaction. The mission is asking for the community to come together to help make this a success. People can donate children's used polos, or purchase new polos to donate to the closet to help local families who are struggling. Businesses can make a tax deductible donation. The more polos that are donated to the closet, the more polos they will have to give away to families on July 23rd. "It's all about Flagler families helping Flagler families," says Fowler, who says she's continuously amazed at the generosity of the Flagler County residents and the generosity of the 40 volunteers who are dedicated to helping others and making a difference. There are two ways people can participate: 1) Donate any new or used polo shirts to Emmanuel's Closet by Monday, July 18th. (All colors and sizes will be accepted and they are also accepting school spirit shirts.) 2) Come to Emmanuel's Closet on Sat., July 23rd at 9am sharp, to receive a complimentary back to school polo shirt(s) for your children. (Limited quantities will be available.) The mission cannot promise that every child will receive a free polo shirt(s), however, does promise to distribute the polos that are donated to the closet fairly and evenly amongst the families in need who arrive at 9am for this one-day giveaway.
