LAS VEGAS - June 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Connecting to the internet in downtown Las Vegas just got a lot faster. The free Wi-Fi provided by LV.Net in partnership with the City of Las Vegas has been updated from a connection speed of 1 Mbps to 100+ Mbps (unlimited speeds),  as fast a user's connection and signal quality allows.

LV.Net is Nevada's largest locally-owned internet service provider (ISP), with four offices and data centers in Southern Nevada. The company works in partnership with the City of Las Vegas to provide free Wi-Fi, or wireless internet access, in public areas at and near the Fremont Street Experience and East Fremont Street downtown.

LV.Net's partnership with the City of Las Vegas to provide free Wi-Fi downtown began in 2013. "At the time of implementation, to rapidly deploy the network, we were utilizing wireless technologies on the backbone and could only accommodate 1 Mbps to hundreds of simultaneous users," said LV.Net president Marty Mizrahi. "Since then, we have upgraded the network to utilize a fiber optic backbone which enables us to deliver unlimited and uncapped data. With this update, users will be able to browse the internet much more quickly than previously capable in the Las Vegas Downtown Connect hotspot areas."

"The city of Las Vegas supports LV.Net's efforts to provide this added service to our downtown residents and tourists," said Michael Sherwood, city of Las Vegas Information Technologies director. "Through this public-private partnership, LV.Net is able to provide free Wi-Fi to enhance our visitors' experience."

The Las Vegas Downtown Connect network covers three square miles with borders at Fremont Street and 7th Street, Charleston Boulevard and 4th Street and Main Street and Bonneville Avenue. Access points are located on top of street lights of many intersections within the downtown connect corridor.  Users in these areas can access the LV.Net SSID network free of charge with no password required.

"LV.Net operates the Las Vegas Downtown Connect network at no cost to the City to thank its residents for their valued support of its operations," said Mizrahi.  Currently, the network accommodates more than 50,000 users monthly.

LV.Net is a Las Vegas based internet service provider (ISP), and offers colocation, Microwave Fiber Wireless and advanced network services at its four Southern Nevada offices and data centers. The company was founded in 1994 and has been locally owned and operated ever since. For more information, visit www.LV.Net or call 702-900-0000.
