PALO ALTO, Calif. - June 10, 2016 - PRLog -- The Open Source Initiative (OSI), the steward of the Open Source Definition (or OSD), is announcing the affiliate membership of SysArmy (www.sysarmy.com.ar). SysArmy, a community of system administrators and IT professionals from Argentina, was founded to provide, "support for those who give support."

Ariel Jolo, SysArmy's founder, explains: "SysArmy's membership is comprised of system and network administrators working across Argentina. We bring together IT professionals to share knowledge, find peers, grow networks and have fun." Jolo added,  "The community is growing rapidly, and being part of the Open Source Initiative will help us boost our growth and consolidate our position in the ecosystem."

SysArmy organizes several community building events supporting the use of open source software within IT infrastructures: Nerdear (nerdear.la), an open source conference which runs twice a year; AdminFest (adminfest.com/index.php); SysAdmin's Appreciation Day - Argentinian Chapter (plus.google.com/s/adminbirras); as well as several meet ups (www.meetup.com/sysarmy/).

SysArmy events benefit from a series of international partners, highlighting the organization's success and scope, these include: MuleSoft, O'Reilly, GitHub and SaltStack - plus the local sponsor www.ekoparty.org (the biggest security conference in Latin America).

"SysArmy confirms the impact of open source across the technology sector. It's not just about software developers and development, but importantly the use communities that now rely on open source to deliver services and support systems." adds OSI General Manager Patrick Masson. "The OSI is keen to support all kinds of free and open source software communities, from typical development-centric software projects, to the growing number of end-user communities, such as SysArmy, which represents those working with open source software on a daily basis."

SysArmy has several social media channels: Admin Fest (www.facebook.com/AdminFest, with over 5,000 fans), Twitter (twitter.com/sysarmy, with over 2,600 followers), LinkedIn (with over 780 members), Meetup (with over 400 members) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/user/nerdearla).

The OSI Affiliate Member Program (http://opensource.org/affiliates), is available at no-cost to non-profits, educational institutions and government agencies--independent groups with a commitment to open source--that support OSI's mission to raise awareness and adoption of open source software and to build bridges among different constituencies in the open source community.
