Follow on Google News | New York Institute of Technology/ Vocational Independence Program Welcomes a New Executive DirectorBy: NYIT/VIP In his tenure at the NYIT Vocational Independence Program Dr. Cavanagh has created and introduced many new programs, including Executive Functioning courses in all areas of the curriculum, and initiated the inclusion of a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Strategies (PBIS) approach as a core philosophy. Prior to coming the NYIT|VIP Dr. Cavanagh was teaching non-profit management at Seton Hall University. Dr. Cavanagh has spent a large part of his professional life working with individuals with an intellectual disability and their families. His past includes positions held as the Director of Advocacy Services for AHRC New York City, Assistant Director of Adult Day Services for DDI, and Assistant Director for Queens Services for Autistic Citizens, Inc. In addition, he spent five years as the Executive Director of an AmeriCorps affiliate: The Vincentian Service Corps. East. As Executive Director, Dr. Cavanagh looks forward to continuing to build on the success of VIP and introducing new initiatives. He will focus on adding daily fitness into the curriculum, increasing work outcomes for graduates and further developing the opportunities for students to take credit courses at NYIT.
