The author Kanishk has spun an intriguing fiction with the current world events in a Dystopian backdrop. Jane, in San Diego, USA, has a hope and a dream for freedom. Her personal losses and her search for love and friendship leads her to commanding a group of outlaws against the Regime.  The memories of past propel her, the will for a future of freedom fires her up.  But is her war enough to topple the Regime of the invincible Brotherhood?

Benjamin is naxalite from India, who is disillusioned by his ideologies. His journey to discover the truth of his believes pits him against the Brotherhood's monstrous rule.  A personal journey transforms in a war against the Regime, which he can not win. As he plunges deep into the quagmire of life and death, he realizes that he is just a puppet in the hands of powers beyond his understanding.

Korfa, wakes up in Sudan, from a long coma. He finds the world around himself completely changed.  His journey starts. He has no identity, no motive, all he has is a burning rage for revenge, which makes him a walking manifestation of chaos.  His journey opens up old wounds of past relations and leaves him branded with new ones. Going through mind numbing physical challenges, Korfa plans and executes his revenge, which unwillingly brings him in contact with the cruel world under the Regime.  Will he get his revenge and thus, a salvation or will he forever be stuck in an unending cycle of chaos?

Saief, held a prisoner in Locarno, Switzerland is in a deep conflict with his faith. The ghastly turn of events, leaves him in a world of religious extremism. Suffering in a war, which he never thought was his to care about, is suddenly his whole world. He has lost everything. All he has is his faith and it is under extreme crisis. He contemplates over the interpretation Islam.  He has to decide between what is right and wrong, but he is no longer sure how to.  How he responds, will decide the fate of the faithless new world. Will he join the Brotherhood and accept their violent version or fight for his own interpretation of Jihad and Islam?

Will the four lives come together for a common cause and take a final stand?  Or will the Regime take them down and continue their unholy rule? The fates of Jane, Benjamin, Korfa and Saief will also decide the fate of the world. But are their fates really in their own hands, or are they just pawns in the hands of a greater power?

Will religious fanaticism destroy the humanity or will love and compassion break the barriers?

'The Black Barrier- A Jihad Story' by Kanishk Banka, 26, is his second book in the Jihad Trilogy after The Inferno- A Thought Fire, published in 2012. This novel, like the previous one, deals with the interpretation of Jihad, the holy war. It is a thematic sequel, set in a dystopian world. A drop out from Christ University and DU, Kanishk has completed his double Master's in Journalism and in Sociology.  He then moved on to Whistling Woods International in Mumbai, from where he completed his two years diploma in film-making. Thereafter, he spent a year and a half travelling across the country pursuing his writings and trying to discover himself.

Being interested in Sociology, world religions, naxalism, terrorism etc. amidst others, occupied his thoughts. While 26/11 triggered his first novel, the current geo-political situations seem to be behind his second novel.

Having worked as an assistant on a few advertisement films, he is presently assisting on an independent film project and writing his third novel, 'Antonym'.  A believer in the power of positivity and creativity, Kanishk presently resides in Mumbai.
