Family First Center and Dr. Evelyn Chenier present a production to benefit at-risk youth

When Darkness Meets the Light

Saturday, June 25th at 8:00 PM at the Trapp Auditorium

Family First Center of Lake County will present this powerful and compelling play at the Orlin Trapp Auditorium in Waukegan, IL.  The play is an original piece co-written and based on the true stories of a lifetime of interactions with young men and women. Playing for just one performance on June 25th, 2016, this play captures the struggles and obstacles multi-cultural families face in our society.  The play does not follow the traditional 3-act format, but rather is built around 3 mini stories weaving in and out of the lives of the neighborhood families. Each character tells their story with music and some poetry, coming together at the end of the play for an inspirational and uplifting climax.  The play is directed by Dr. Evelyn Chenier and Rachel Washington. Dr. Chenier co-founded and serves as Executive Director of Family First Center of Lake County.

Website   For Ticket information or to donate visit  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/darkness-meets-light-comedy-... The play is a benefit for the G.R.I.P program (Gang Resistance Intervention & Prevention) also known as the SMARTIES program. All proceeds directly fund the program. The SMARTIES program is staffed by trained volunteers who guide young people to become future leaders.  The program provides youth with incentives, mentoring, counseling, exposure to the educational field of science, and anti-violence messages through positive interactions and structured activities with the volunteer staff.

This inspiring and funny play delivers finger snapping music, dance, song and hope for the future. A show appropriate for all ages (children are encouraged), When Darkness Meets the Light gives viewers food for the soul through life lessons and laughter. The families go through their share of ups and downs but through inspiration, prayer and friendship they find a way through. The stage play portrays an extraordinary expression of the issues families deal with every day.   "This play is the universal voice of families everywhere.  Join us as we explore the struggles, the heartache, the pain, the triumph and the joy the characters in the play experience.  Our message is that you can discover that you have what it takes to endure life's struggles and come out victorious."  -Rachel Washington
