Thursday Network and NULYP Hosts National Day of Service for Minority Education and Mentoring

Full S.T.E.A.M Ahead: Education & Mentoring engages National Urban League (NUL) affiliate networks, NULYP chapter members and the community at-large in by planning activities that expose black and minority communities to underrepresented fields
 
WASHINGTON - April 21, 2016 - PRLog -- Thursday Network and National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) chapters nationwide will celebrate service by joining together to promote comprehensive educational opportunities and mentoring on Saturday, April 23. National Day of Service "Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead: Education & Mentoring" engages National Urban League (NUL) affiliate networks, NULYP chapter members and the community at-large in by planning activities that expose black and minority communities to fields they are underrepresented in, generating excitement and awareness.

Thursday Network will host a S.T.E.A.M. Career Fair and Awards Ceremony at Stuart-Hobson Middle School on April 27th, 2016. The location is 410 E St NE, Washington, DC 20002. The event will be from 3:30PM to 6:00PM. During the Career Fair, S.T.E.A.M. professionals will be responsible for interacting with the students by providing knowledge and demonstrations of their area of expertise.

This annual event was created was to provide NULYP chapters with a platform to partner with their local National Urban League Council of Guilds chapters. NULYP chapters that serve NUL affiliates with educational, tutorial and/or mentoring partnerships will utilize them as a key resource in raising awareness of this year's theme and objectives.

Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Equipping minority communities with the tools that change the world and lead to economic empowerment and responsibility is the goal of this year's National Day of Service.

Thursday Network (TN) is the young professionals' auxiliary of the Greater Washington Urban League and the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Urban League Young Professionals. Founded in 1992, Thursday Network's mission is to provide a forum for young professionals, ages 21 - 40, to assist the Greater Washington Urban League in achieving its goals and to focus their efforts on community service and foster personal and professional development, social consciousness, civic engagement, and economic empowerment.
