ACTE announce low bandwidth 4G module with fallback to 2G for IoT applications

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - March 18, 2016 - PRLog -- The first of its kind, Cinterion ELS61 is a low powered, simplified 4G/LTE Cat 1 wireless module. It is aimed at addressing the market need for a low powered, low speed 4G enabled module for Machine to Machine (M2M) and industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The device features power optimised performance and M2M optimized speeds of 10Mbit/s downlink and 5Mbit/s uplink on the 4G frequencies, with fall back to GPRS/GSM.

ELS61 delivers overall cost efficiencies for the vast number of IoT applications that are not dependent on high speed connectivity, but still require a 5 year plus longevity and reliability of penta band 4G networks, as 2G and 3G phase out in years ahead. It is therefore ideal for a wide variety of long field life applications including metering, tracking, fleet management and mHealth. 4G/LTE Cat 1, is available on networks now as it forms part of standard 4G.

Gemalto LTE Cat 1 modules also deliver significant bandwidth and power efficiencies, including a feature set specific to the needs of industrial IoT solutions such as extended operating temperatures from -40C to 85C. As devices are less bandwidth centric, the processors and amplifiers are less complex, allowing price points to be comparable to current 3G modules.

ELS61 shares the same footprint as many other Cinterion industrial portfolio products. This allows for an easier migration from 2G and 3G engines over to 4G, plus AT commands are largely identical between modules. ELS61 also supports multi-designs for different network standards, for instance having sister U.S centric parts. All Cinterion M2M modules come with full type approval across the global portfolio and local network certifications in many countries.

ELS61 comes in Gemalto's unique LGA (Land Grid Array) package measuring 28 x 25 x 2mm, therefore suited to the manufacturing requirements of small, high-volume M2M devices with a focus on reliable and efficient processes. ELS61 is designed for best in class power consumption and includes support for common industrial interfaces such as USB and UART.
