Follow on Google News | Birding is now Crowd Sourced and MappedThanks to Apple and iis2iis.com birdwatchers can now use their smart phones to track bird migrations globally in real time.
By: iis2iis Inc So, how does it work? First of all, it's free of charge, you go to the iis2iis.com website and register, then you'll be directed to the Apple Store to download your iis2iis app. Then you'll subscribe for free to the bird watching community: https://www.iis2iis.com/#/ Once you're a member, any pictures or videos you take and are satisfied with can be sent along with a brief description. Your pictures will be geo-located on the map and an accompanying copy will appear on a TV like presentation at the bottom of the page. The information collected will be only as good as the professionalism of the members submissions, so please do your best while uploading information. We have also established a chat function so birders can communicate among themselves to share information or correct mistakes. The presentation of our site is akin to a television station newsroom and there is one more important element, you can double as assignment editor. Members can send a "ping" (a point of interests) on the map so that others with the app will receive a notification if their distance preferences correspond. There are two ways this feature can be used: 1. A member may have heard that a rare bird is at a specific location and remotely "ping" others to be on the lookout to dispel or confirm rumours or 2. A sighting has been verified and a broadcast is sent so that others will be informed to have a chance at their own sighting. Please enjoy this new powerful resource and use it to help protect what you love. Please use Chrome while browsing our site. End
