ANN ARBOR, Mich. - March 2, 2016 - PRLog -- In January, when the New York Times named Mexico City the “Top Place to Go in 2016,” Stephanie Schneiderman, founder of Tia Stephanie Tours, was not surprised. Since 2006, Tia Stephanie Tours has been the premier tour operator specializing in the art, architecture, culture, and cuisine of Mexico. This year she has enhanced her Mexico City-specific offerings with five in-depth Mexico City Cultural Journeys.

Tia Stephanie’s Mexico offerings for 2016 include:

·         Mexico City 101 -- Available any time upon request (Pricing upon request)

·         Mexico City: Art, Culture, and Cuisine -- April 17-24, August 14-21 (From $2435 pp/d)

·         The Enduring Legacy of Frida Kahlo – July 3-10 (From $2440 pp/d)

·         The Mexican Rebozo Tour -- September 8-17 (From $2,685 pp/d)

·         The Culture and Cuisine of Mexico: Traditional to Contemporary -- available any time upon request (Pricing upon request)

In Mexico City 101, Tia Stephanie’s travelers explore the city’s Historic Center, with baroque and neo-classical architecture, the Palace of Fine Arts and its massive Tiffany glass curtain, murals by Rivera, Orozco and Tamayo, the renowned National Museum of Anthropology, swanky Polanco, the cobblestone streets of San Angel, and city markets. Founded by the Aztecs on what is now the dried lake bed of Texcoco, Tenochtitlan, was a powerful and revered city. Today, it remains a great city and like Rome, has the layers of great civilizations as evidence! Join us on a Journey to elegant Mexico City; a city of multiple layers.

Mexico City: Art, Culture, and Cuisine is a journey of learning and discovery, where Tia Stephanie’s travelers explore the history and expressions of Art in Mexico. They delve into the Mexican Muralism Movement, with an in-depth look at the art of Diego Rivera. They also look at the highly personal work of Frida Kahlo. The vision and temperament of these artists is used as a window to the History and Politics of Mexico.

In The Enduring Legacy of Frida Kahlo, Tia Stephanie’s travelers analyze Frida mania. Frida was born on July 6, 1907. Yet, at Casa Azul where she grew up, painted on the wall it reads, “Here Frida Kahlo was born on July 7, 1910,” the year of the outbreak of Mexico’s Revolution. Which is correct? In a way, both are. They reflect the duality of Frida’s inner and outer life; her physical world and the mythical world she created by her sheer willpower and imagination. This special Anniversary of Frida’s Birth Journey will showcase some special exhibits of Frida’s artwork and her collection of indigenous clothing.

The Mexican Rebozo (traditional shawl) is an emblem of Mexico. This year, Tia Stephanie’s annual rebozo trip is scheduled around the Feria del Rebozo in Tenancingo, an area near Mexico City that is the rebozo mecca of Mexico and best known for exquisite ikat (jaspe) dye resist rebozos. We enjoy this unique opportunity to see (& buy) the “best from the best” for our special collections. Of course, lovely “daily wear” rebozos will be abundant, as we scour the plaza for the ones that “speak to us”. In Mexico City, we’ll visit the shrine of “Nuestro Senor del Rebozo” and see the Franz Mayer Museum antique rebozo collection.

The Culture and Cuisine of Mexico: Traditional to Contemporary leads travelers on a journey to explore the ancient foods of Mexico. In Mexico City they see how heritage foods, such as ancient corn, vanilla, and amaranth are being interpreted in very contemporary ways at restaurants such as Enrique Olvera’s Pujol and Jorge Vallejo’s Quintonil.

Mexico City’s historic heritage and ancient culture, juxtaposed with cutting edge contemporary expressions in art, architecture, design, fashion, and food is what travelers want and what Tia Stephanie Tours offers. Says Schneiderman, “When my travelers experience Mexico City for the first time, they are simply astounded and amazed by what they see and experience. They say things like, ‘I never knew Mexico City had so many museums, or such great restaurants, or so much culture.’ Or ‘I’m sorry it took me so long to discover Mexico City.’”

Mexico City has so much culture to offer at an incredible value, and Tia Stephanie Tours is here to bring that value to every traveler with an inquisitive mind. Private, Group Departures, and Custom Group Tours are all available. For more information on Tia Stephanie Tours’ 2016 offerings, visit: www.tiastephanietours.com.
