Internationals have had it with separate taps in Britain

EDINBURGH, U.K. - Feb. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- A new device aims to solve a problem that has long baffled tourists, international students and expats that come to the British Isles – separate taps for hot and cold water.

The gadget is designed to enable international visitors to hotels or rented accommodation – where replacing the plumbing is not an option – to safely and hygienically mix hot and cold water supplies into sinks.

Separate taps were originally designed for filling up sinks with a mix of hot and cold water for washing, which is unhygienic, time consuming, and wastes water.

Unlike most DIY solutions to this problem, the device – known as a Retromixer – is made of materials resistant to high temperature and certified for contact with drinking water.

The idea is the brainchild of two engineers from Germany and Poland, who were inspired to find a solution.

With support from various departments of the University of Edinburgh, the inventors are running a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise money for production of the first batch of their product.

Retromixer, which stands for retrofitted mixer for separate taps, is inexpensive, easy and quick to install, compatible will all kinds of spout shapes and adjustable to varying distances between taps.

By connecting the two water streams, Retromixer reduces water consumption by up to 50%. Implementing recycled materials in the design is also improving its sustainability, which helped the startup team secure a place at Low Carbon Ideas Lab, an incubator at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation.

Retromixer’s crowdfunding campaign is running until March 10. They have currently raised 53% of their target of £4,000. If they raise £6,000, they promise to offer the Retromixer in different colours.
