Feb. 14, 2016 - PRLog -- Every year, thousands of home-owners in Greater Toronto Area face the problem of drainage problems. Water-backup, drain clogging and basement flooding are the signs of faulty or damaged drainage system.

But many drainage problems are not very clear. If you understand the early signs of a drainage issue, you will be able to save money by repairing them today. Here are few subtle signs of a damaged drainage system:

Gushing Gutter

Gutter or eavestrough carries rainwater off the roof.  It protects the foundation by directing water away from the foundation. It is also useful in preventing leaks in basement. Gutter overflowing may be caused because of dirt or debris. It can also be caused by improper installation. If you do not repair it, you will end up with damaged siding, peeling paint and a weak foundation.

Downspout Dumping

Downspout carries rain water from gutter and dumps it far from the foundation. If the downspout of your home is dumping water near the foundation, it will cause flooding in the basement. If your downspout is not at least five feet away from the foundation of your home, you must immediately call a licensed plumbing contractor (https://www.pourconcrete.ca/drainage-plumbing-contractor-...)  like Pour Concrete to repair it.

Water Staining

Water stains that are high on the foundation wall are caused by an overflowing gutter. If the stains are all over the basement wall, they can be a result of fluctuating water table. In such a situation, it is important to install sumpump and weeping tiles to seep water out of your basement.

Foundation Cracks

Every home has few foundation cracks. Usually, they occur because of settling and general wear and tear. But, you should analyze cracks that are wider than eighth of an inch. If such cracks widens continuously, it is a sign of a drainage problem.

Deposits on Walls

If there is white or grey crust on the basement walls, it is a sign of drainage problem. The crust is called efflorescence and it is mineral deposit that is left behind by evaporating water.

Spalling

If the paint is peeling off in big patches, it is called spalling. Spalling occurs because the water is seeping in the masonry work of the basement. If you notice spalling, it is important to address the problem quickly.

Mildew Problem

Dampness can cause mildew in any part of your home. If you see mildew in basement or attic, it indicates water leakage or moisture problem. So, search for any sign of mildew or mold development.
