Charity Golf for Wounded Warriors Donates $25,000 to Hodges University

NAPLES, Fla. - Jan. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- On Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, Hodges University will receive a gift of $25,000 from the Charity Golf for Wounded Warriors, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the public's awareness and support for wounded veterans returning home from today's wars. The donation will benefit the veteran scholarship program at Hodges. The check presentation will be held at 10 a.m. in the John White Community Room in the Stock Building on the university’s Naples campus.

“I believe in helping to fund education. I attended school on the GI Bill, and I want to help veterans who are returning to school to pursue an education,” said Dale Mullin, founder of Charity Golf for Wounded Warriors and Vietnam veteran.

The organization, which stands by its mission of honoring and empowering wounded warriors, hosts a dinner and golf tournament in November each year in an effort to raise awareness and monetary support for the Wounded Warrior Project. In 2015, after discussing ways to benefit a charity at the local level in Collier County, Mullin and fellow board members chose to donate $25,000 to Hodges University in support of its veteran scholarship program. This is the first time the organization has been able to donate money to a local veteran-related nonprofit.

Christine Manson, director of the Dr. Peter Thomas Veterans Services Center at Hodges, was elated to hear that Hodges University was chosen to be the recipient of this award, saying, “To be selected, it is such an honor. Wounded Warriors is a prominent name and to see that name become so local means a lot to us. The impact of this gift on our students and in our community is very profound. This donation will allow us to enhance the scholarships we offer and hopefully eliminate any roadblocks our students may face in pursuit of an education.”

“Because I care, and because I am a veteran myself, Charity Golf for Wounded Warriors allows me to give to the next generation of warriors who defend and serve our country,” said Mullin.

Upon learning of the generous donation, Dr. David Borofsky, president of Hodges University, remarked, “The partnership with the Wounded Warriors organization is an excellent one for Hodges University and our veteran students. They have been so supportive of our students and have helped to give back to those who have fought and protected our freedoms and our country. We are honored that this fine organization has agreed to help fund scholarships for our veteran students. We look forward to this partnership growing and helping current and future veterans attend Hodges University!”

Hodges University is grateful for the dedication and service of our armed forces. The Dr. Peter Thomas Veterans Services Center (VSC) at Hodges University is committed to supporting all military veterans, service members and their families in reaching their academic and career goals.
