FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Oct. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- Mass DOT Examinations & Physicals in Framingham, MA is now offering Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exams. Framingham chiropractor, Dr. Howard Austrager follows guidelines set forth under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA). A physician on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners must perform the examination. Dr. Austrager is on the National Registry. After successful completion of the exam, drivers will receive a Medical Examiner Certificate the same day, which drivers must carry with them when they drive. DOT examinations include vision testing, hearing testing, blood pressure testing, a physical exam, and a urinalysis that includes testing for blood, glucose or protein. Drug tests are not part of the standard DOT examination.

Commercial truck drivers, drivers who drive a commercial vehicle and those who wish to renew their hoisting license need an annual DOT examination. Drivers can now complete their Massachusetts DOT exam at Mass DOT Examinations. Dr. Howard Austrager is trained and certified to perform DOT physical exams for Massachusetts drivers.

"Scheduling a DOT physical can in some cases be a difficult process, particularly for drivers who don't have the time to take a whole vacation day from work to get their physical done," said Dr. Austrager. "We offer same day appointments. Our Framingham office already works closely with many commercial drivers as patients to help them manage back pain, wrist pain, or other pain associated with long hours driving and posture problems from these drives. Offering DOT physical testing is a natural extension of our commitment to serve commercial drivers."

The requirements for passing the DOT physical include at least 20/40 vision in each eye with or without glasses and the ability to distinguish color. A simple hearing test is also performed. Drivers may use a hearing aid to pass, if needed.

The maximum allowable blood pressure is 140/90; prescription medication may be taken in order to achieve this threshold. Drivers who have blood pressure above this level still may be certified but for a shorter period of time. While applicants may have diabetes, blood sugar levels must be controlled through medication or diet. For those drivers taking insulin there are special intrastate waivers that you can get so you can still drive, although only in-state.

"The DOT physical is an important exam to ensure commercial drivers and construction equipment operators are in good health to operate their vehicles," said Dr. Austrager.

In addition to DOT examinations, Dr. Howard Austrager provides chiropractic care (http://www.metrowestspineclinic.com) to patients who are suffering with pain.
