Healy Consultants: The migrant issue in Luxembourg and its opportunitiesInflux of immigrants in Luxembourg and other European Union countries presents business opportunities in population integration, civic rights training, higher education and skilled workforce familiarization across all sectors of the economy.
By: Healy Consultants The move indicates that it is now official for EU individual member states to embark on plan to transform the immigrants into productive EU citizenry. A similar situation is reiterated by the Bundesbank chief, Jens Weidmann, who said that the current influx of refugees is an opportunity for the EU economy, but warned of an impending difficulty in the integration process. "The situation of migration phenomena outside and inside the European Union has recently taken unprecedented proportions. In order to assess the situation on the ground, the political actions under way and to discuss the next steps in order to strengthen the European response, the Luxembourg Minister for Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, decided to convene an extraordinary Justice and Home Affairs council," said a recent statement from Luxembourg, which currently holds the EU's six-month rotating presidency. The Bundesbank chief made it clear that those opportunities are hinged on a successful integration of the newcomers into society and the domestic labor market. According to EuroWork, a European observatory of working life, immigrants will need a detailed integration program to re-align their skills with the available opportunities in EU member states, Luxembourg included so as to complement the aging EU population as far as workforce demand is concerned. While the rate of unemployment in Luxembourg has remained relatively stable, even fallen, in the last couple of months, this could significantly rise as immigrants surge into EU. The situation however improved in the month of July in comparison to the second quarter of last year, when the unemployment rate was at 7.3 percent.
