PLEASANT GROVE, Utah - Sept. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- Caring through sharing is a way of life for Betsy Holmes. After she enrolled as a Wellness Advocate for doTERRA essential oils just over six-years ago, she knew she wanted to use her connections and relationships in a meaningful way. She wasn’t sure exactly how she’d do it but, after making it a matter of prayer, Betsy knew she had to get her healing oils into the hands of those who could never procure or afford them, on a global scale.

After the destructive Haiti earthquake hit in January of 2010—registering 7.0 on the Richter scale—Betsy felt compelled to act. This Ohio woman shared the oils she had on hand (the basics of the Family Physician’s Kit) with local relief teams heading to Haiti, trained them on their use, and suggested scenarios the humanitarians might encounter in the ravaged area. Betsy had no idea as to the huge impact those small oil bottles would make!

The workers returned and recounted the sad stories of what they saw and experienced. But they also told of the amazing ways the essential oils lifted spirits, supported wellness, cleansed the environment, and protected Haitians from the ravenous mosquitos.1 Betsy got her own team involved, and they all pitched in—asking for donations at their classes and events—to help cover the growing list of oil needs from orphanages, birth centers, and other non-profit organizations in many challenging locales.

Betsy said, "We found that those who received oils were so grateful…they shared their oils with the surrounding areas. We took great care to always send the oils through a well-educated person who would then train others and distribute the oils in sample vials so that they could continue to help many people."

In 2014, Giveoils.org was born as a non-profit organization and, as the requests to help grew, so did the generous donations. Giveoils.org was able to serve people worldwide in over 20 countries—including the Philippines, Mexico, Tanzania, Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil, Haiti, India, Indonesia, and several areas of Africa, including places where the ebola virus hit epidemic proportions (Sierra Leone and Liberia).

Back home in Ohio—Betsy and her Giveoils.org friends work the local food pantry several times a month, offering essential oil samples to the homeless. It’s a life-changing experience for both the givers and receivers. Several of the recipients have returned to the food pantry—often in tears—to report how the oils impacted them. In Betsy’s words, "I suppose when we offer something as simple as a prayer and an oil they can take home and use, it’s equivalent to asking them, ‘How are you?’ and letting them know that we care and want to know their deepest hurts and walk with them."

Betsy started Giveoils.org "to bring people together to do what we can’t do alone." The non-profit has since connected many organizations and people who may have never had each other’s resources—and the oils serve as the catalyst. One such example is a Tanzanian midwife—already skilled in essential oils use—who flew to Madagascar to help train another midwife and birth center on how to use their donations. In return, the Tanzanian midwife was able to learn more about helping mothers and babies in crisis.

Betsy says she’s been changed from the inside out through all of her experiences. Whether working with the homeless in her own community, holding premature orphan babies in Johannesburg close to a diffuser, or rubbing oils on the feet of a homeless orphan in Zambia—she’s realized every person has greatness inside of them. She believes all people need to understand their value in this world. Betsy’s realized her purpose, and she says she’s excited to see where passionate giving and more partnership opportunities take Giveoils.org.

Betsy Holmes and her husband, Paul, are doTERRA Presidential Diamond Wellness Advocates and live with their two children in Columbus, Ohio.
