By: Sister A One-Woman Stage Performance Written by international award-winning playwright/director, Michael Phillip Edwards, his newest work is an exploration into the psyche of a poet-actress by day, and in-call prostitute by night. Sister can be seen at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles, California September 17-19, at 7:30 PM and September 20th at 2pm. Sister journeys through the soul of Denise “dangerously walking the thin line between beautiful…and something totally different.” Gimpel is no stranger to the stage. Her enchantment with the theater, her “first love,” began early in life as a child participating in the children’s chorus on stage with her mother, concert singer Phyllis Bash. After a number of appearances on screen, she returned to the stage with Lynn Nottage’s Intimate Apparel and Sam Shepard’s States of Shock, with John Malkovich. Michael Phillip Edwards’s newest work, produced by Susannah O’Brien, PhD has already begun making waves. Last weekend’s commanding performance, garnered the attention of several other legitimate theater venues for performances in the near future. Edwards’s former hit play, Runt, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival and won the prestigious Fringe First Award, before touring around the globe. Come out to experience Sister, for its closing weekend at the Bootleg Theater this Thursday through Saturday, September 17-20, at 7:30 PM (Sun at 2pm). Tickets are available through the Bootleg Theater website http://www.bootlegtheater.org/ End
