Restaurants turn to Cloud SolutionsRestaurants are increasingly adopting web-based systems for their back-office needs. And with the high failure rate of new restaurants, it's easy to see why.
By: Run-a-Restaurant Paul Clarke, CEO of Run-a-Restaurant, Restaurant Management Systems, says, "On-line software solutions such as Count-n-Control and Write-a-Recipe are ideal for operators opening a new restaurant. Internet-based systems reduce start-up capital and give restaurateurs anywhere/anytime access to their key performance indicators." The increasing popularity of on-line accounting systems such as QuickBooks and Xero is starting to spread into industry specific solutions such as Run-a-Restaurant. Krys Canny-Smith from S.J. Canny, an Australian based accounting and business services firm, says, "We have a large number of clients changing to cloud software solutions. Generally the cloud software is more affordable, and as it isn’t necessary to have an on-site server with cloud based solutions significant working capital can be freed up." Many restaurants have a wide spread of opening hours, and restaurateurs often rely on hired help to oversee their businesses. Internet-based systems make it easy to maintain visibility while not on-site. Paul Clarke went on to say, "A number of Run-a-Restaurant clients are multi-site operations with Area Managers that log-in regularly to monitor sales and stock usage." With a fickle and ever-changing market, the restaurant industry will always be volatile. However, internet-based back-office systems are one way for restaurateurs to minimize the risk of failure. End
