GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Aug. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- Platinum Educational Group--the Testing, Scheduling, and Skills Tracking Experts, understands the struggles and obstacles that are presented to the EMS community — especially when it pertains to education. Paramedics turned entrepreneurs, Doug Smith and Tom Gottschalk, shared 50 years of EMS experience before deciding to utilize that knowledge to help educate others. In 2002 they launched the industry leading EMS Testing and Scheduling online software company, Platinum Educational Group.  In an effort to give even more back to the EMS community, the two co-founders announced in May about the company’s foundational EMS Scholarships Program and are now pleased to announce its inaugural recipients. The two awardees were announced August 7, 2015 at the 20th anniversary of the NAEMSE Symposium that was held in Nashville, TN.

Benny Baltazar from Chicago, IL was the first $1000 scholarship awardee. Benny is attending Harper College’s Paramedic Training Program and became interested in EMS from his father who served the city of Chicago for many years. His ultimate goal is to become a nurse. “The combination of being both a paramedic and a nurse will allow me to fulfill both my career desires, which consist of continuing to be a first responder while working as an emergency medical nurse,” stated Mr. Baltazar.

Shelby Parker from Albuquerque, NM was the second $1000 scholarship recipient. Shelby attends Central New Mexico Community College’s Paramedic Program. Shelby enrolled in the EMT program in order to gain invaluable insight into the pre-hospital aspect of emergency medicine and to experience patient care firsthand. Her ultimate goal is to become an emergency physician. “There is always more to learn in the discipline of emergency medicine, and for this reason, I knew that I was meant to spend my life doing just that,” stated Ms. Parker.

In 2015 Platinum Educational Group offered two $1000 scholarships, but the company plans on expanding its scholarships program to also include the nursing and allied health fields.

“As we expand our company’s software programs to include the Allied Health industry, alongside our EMS products, we also look to develop separate scholarship programs to include Nursing, Medical Assistant, and other related fields in the future,” specified Platinum’s CEO and co-founder Doug Smith. He also stated, “It just feels good to give back.”
