| ![]() Female Pest Controller in Kingston, UK Says Clients Have A Different AttitudeVarious studies have been made about the difference of the work environment between men and women. It's never quite the same as when the employee comes right out and says it: "I'm not being treated the same as my colleagues of the opposite gender!"
An anonymous female exterminator from a pest control company in Kingston upon Thames has reported something interesting in one of the quality-control surveys done by the company. "It's generally considered a man's job", the professional speculates. She reported that a significant percentage of the clients fail to follow the instructions she gives them. "They see me coming in with my fogging equipment and safety glasses and they ask me if it's okay for their children to stay and watch TV". After the company management took an interest with the issue, it was established that this situation occurs more often with the female employee rather than with the rest of the pest control team. The Kingston pest control company has a long reputation of reliable services and a big part of a successful pest treatment is the cooperation of the clients themselves. The employer claims he never thought it might turn out to be an issue, hiring a female pest controller. "A line that I get quite often is: Are you the cleaning lady? Does the cleaning lady really wear safety glasses?! I get it, no one expects a female pest controller to show up at their door." Scepticism wasn't the only kind of attitude that interfered with the expert doing her job. “I also hear sometimes – You're a lady, you shouldn't be doing this dirty job!” The upper-management of Pest Controllers Kingston has suggested taking measures, but the woman in question has insisted that no action should be taken on the matter. "Any sort of 'different treatment' that I might receive would just make things more uneven between me and my colleagues. I only wanted to share my experience so that people would be aware that this kind of subtle inequality in our industry exists after all."
