DETROIT - June 9, 2015 - PRLog -- The Mobile Technology Association of Michigan (MTAM) is proud to announce the addition of several community partner organizations and the moderator for its upcoming ‘Women in Mobile/Wireless Tech’ event. This event will serve as the launch of MTAM’s statewide ‘Women in Mobile Tech’ Advisory Council, as well as an opportunity for women seeking careers utilizing these technologies to hear from an incredible panel of successful women working in the field.

Non-profit Community Partners joining the event to-date include: the Michigan STEM Partnership, Girl Develop It – Detroit and Girl Develop It – Ann Arbor. Each Community Partner is able to offer its members a registration discount to attend the event, and members of these organizations should contact their organization leadership to receive the appropriate registration discount codes.

The ‘Women in Mobile/Wireless Tech’ event takes place on Monday, June 22nd from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Iroquois Club located in Bloomfield Hills. Those interested in attending the event can register at http://www.MessageBlocks.com/MTAMWomenInMobileTech. On-site registration WILL NOT be available.

Moderating the event will be MTAM’s ‘Women in Mobile Tech’ Advisory Council Chairperson, Janette Phillips, Business Development Director for Chrysalis Global, and former Executive Director for the Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT). Of this MTAM effort Phillips says, “What MTAM is creating in support of women in tech is something that has been very important to me for a long time. This new initiative will provide women interested in mobile/wireless technologies – in any industry – a forum to learn, network and support each other in this rapidly growing tech field.”

Being an educational resource for women interested in development careers, Girl Develop It-Detroit and Ann Arbor chapters see value in the collaboration with MTAM. GDI-Detroit Chapter Leader and Instructor, Leeann Drees says, “We’re very excited to be part of the event! We love that MTAM, like us, is focused on educating adult women and helping them make rewarding career changes. We’ve definitely seen a lot of interest in learning mobile skills from our members, and are happy to have the chance to connect them with women in the industry.”

Michigan STEM Partnership Executive Director, Gary Farina states, “Because of Michigan STEM Partnership’s work with employers around the state, we are acutely aware of the tremendous shortages of trained and experienced candidates to fill the many available mobile/wireless tech openings from those employers. We support MTAM’s goal to bring together the various stakeholders to collaborate on solutions which will enable these job openings to be filled in a timely manner with candidates who are well-trained for those roles and highly enthusiastic about the career and business opportunities these technologies provide, and we are therefore happy to be involved with this event.”

Regarding the need for the ‘Women in Mobile Tech’ Advisory Council and this launch event, MTAM’s Executive Director, Linda Daichendt indicates, “We believe that Michigan businesses, and the economic development needs of the state, require a time-sensitive solution for filling mobile/wireless tech job openings and that there are many women in Michigan who could be that potential solution. This event and the ‘Women in Mobile Tech’ Advisory Council seek to bring together partners from other non-profits, and from the education, business, and government communities to help find those time-sensitive solutions. We’re actively seeking partners who want to work with us on solving this problem in Michigan because we believe solving it here gives Michigan an advantage in driving companies to relocate, launch and grow here.”

The ‘Women in Mobile Tech’ launch event will feature a panel of women leaders in the mobile/wireless tech space from a cross-section of industries involved in providing or using mobile/wireless tech, including:

•   Jenny Deason-Copeland, Network Project Manager, AT&T Mobility

•   Suzanne Chartier, VP/Director of Engineering Services, eyeWyre Software Studios

•   Meredith Phillips, Chief Privacy & Information Security Officer, Henry Ford Health System
