May 15, 2015 - PRLog -- “Everything you can imagine is real”- Pablo Picasso

And Picasso does it again- On the evening of Monday, May 11, 2015, an anonymous private collector spent the highest amount in history for an artwork at auction. Pablo Picasso’s 1955 painting “Les Femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’)” sold for $179.4 million at Christie’s in New York City.

Picasso’s “Les Femmes d’Alger” is from a series that Picasso produced from 1954 to 1955 and is said to be inspired by the 19th century Eugène Delacroix painting, “Femmes d’Alger dans leur appartement.”

In honor of the world-breaking record, Baterbys is featuring a Pablo Picasso sale of original prints by the artist, many of which are brand new to the Baterbys collection. From May 13th to 27th, the sale will be available online at www.baterbys.com/shop or at Baterbys' showroom, located at 6848 Stapoint Court, Winter Park, FL. 32792. The diverse collection will feature works at all price ranges and starting as low as $600.

The showroom and online sale will highlight artwork from Picasso’s 347 Series, a collection he created from March 16th to October 5th, 1968. The original series includes 347 copper engravings and represent an ‘artistic diary’. He worked on the suite daily and viewed the experience as a way to express his thoughts and emotions. The images depict circus scenes, war, and erotic illustrations of men and women.

Other works in the sale will include original lithographs from Verve- one of the 20th century’s most important literary works featuring fashion and art.

Biography of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973): Spanish born Pablo Picasso was the son of an academic painter, José Ruiz Blasco, and began to draw as a young boy. His visit to Horta de Ebro and his association with the group at the Café Els Quatre Gats were crucial to his early artistic development.  In 1900, Picasso had his first exhibition in Barcelona. He developed elements of multiple perspectives and faceted representation, wherein subjects are reduced and fragmented through intersecting, seemingly transparent planes. His styles can be reflected in his Blue Period, Rose Period, Analytic Phase, and Synthetic Phase. Picasso is stated as being the most famous, versatile, prolific and influential artist of the 20th century. He was a master of Classicism, Symbolism, Expressionism, and was the chief inventor of Cubism and anticipator of Surrealism.
